Redefining Content Impact in the Age of AI Search

Mustela Türkiye, one of the world’s leading brands in mother, baby, and family skincare, entered a content transformation process designed to strengthen its digital visibility not only in traditional search results, but also across AI-powered search experiences.

As Google AI Overviews, AI Mode, ChatGPT, Gemini, and similar AI-driven discovery environments reshape user behavior, evaluating content performance solely through organic traffic is no longer enough. This shift is especially important for informational content, where users increasingly reach answers directly through AI-generated summaries, creating a new kind of pressure on informational traffic for many brands.

At the beginning of the project, Mustela Türkiye did not have a fundamental performance problem. On the contrary, the brand already had strong organic visibility and a solid content foundation built through previous SEO efforts. However, as AI-powered search experiences became more widespread, a new strategic question emerged:

How can Mustela’s existing content strength be transformed into a structure that is more visible, more answerable, more trustworthy, and more effectively connected to the purchase journey within AI search experiences?

For this reason, the strategy was not focused solely on generating more traffic. The goal was to transform Mustela’s content into a system that answered user questions more clearly, could be understood more easily by AI systems, carried stronger trust signals, and connected more strategically to product and category pages.

Summary

The work carried out with Mustela Türkiye showed that, in the age of AI search, content success can no longer be measured by traffic growth alone.

According to Semrush AI data, Mustela Türkiye’s AI Visibility score increased from 14 in March 2026 to 74 by June 2026. During the same period, the brand achieved 1K mentions, 1.8K citations, and visibility across 383 cited pages within the AI search ecosystem.

In April 2026, content updated through the Content Impact Standard approach improved its Content Impact scores from the 62–68 range to the 76–80 range, resulting in an average improvement of approximately 19.4%.

This project demonstrated that content should not be designed merely as blog pages that generate more traffic. Instead, content should function as a strategic digital asset that answers user questions, carries trust signals, can be more easily understood by AI systems, and guides users toward the right product or category pathways.

Commercial performance, revenue, conversion rate, and category-level sales data have not been disclosed in this success story due to confidentiality. The project has been evaluated based on search visibility, content quality, AI readiness, mention and citation visibility, and pathway contribution.

Starting Point

In March 2026, according to Semrush AI data, Mustela Türkiye’s AI Visibility score was at 14. This indicated a significant opportunity for improvement within the AI-powered search ecosystem.

Mustela already had a strong brand presence and a solid content base. However, in the age of AI search, simply having content is no longer enough. Content needs to answer the right user questions clearly, be perceived as a reliable source, connect to relevant product and category pathways, and make brand authority more readable for AI systems.

At this point, the core strategic question was:

How can Mustela’s content be transformed from pages that simply provide information into assets that can be cited in AI search experiences, answer user questions more clearly, and guide users toward the right product and category pathways?

How We Defined Success in the Age of AI

In this project, success was not defined only as “more organic traffic,” because in the age of AI search, content performance is no longer limited to ranking higher in Google search results.

For Mustela Türkiye, success was evaluated across the following areas:

  • AI Visibility score improvement
  • Growth in AI mentions and citations
  • Expansion in the number of cited pages
  • Improvement in content quality and Content Impact scores
  • Stronger connection between informational content and the purchase journey
  • Greater support for product and category pathways through content
  • A more competitive AI visibility position within the category

This approach created a more holistic success model that goes beyond traffic metrics and evaluates content performance through discoverability, answerability, trust, brand experience, and pathway contribution.

In other words, the goal for Mustela was not simply to attract more visits. The goal was to become more visible for the right user questions, provide more trustworthy answers to those questions, and guide users more clearly toward the product, category, or informational pathway they needed.

Traffic Is Not the Only Success Metric

As AI-powered search experiences become more common, traditional organic traffic metrics, especially for informational content, need to be interpreted more carefully.

In the case of Mustela Türkiye, the project was not evaluated only from a traffic growth perspective. While some informational content may face traffic pressure due to AI summaries and changing search behavior, content that is more strongly connected to the user journey can still contribute more effectively to commercial outcomes.

For this reason, the project did not focus only on the question, “Did traffic increase?” Instead, it focused on a more critical question:

Can the content meet the right user with the right information and connect them to a stronger product or category pathway?

In this context, the fact that Mustela Türkiye observed a 15.24% revenue increase despite a 34.56% decline in informational traffic during the relevant period became a strong signal that, in the age of AI search, content success cannot be explained by traffic alone.

This result showed that content strategy should focus not only on generating more visits, but also on creating higher-quality user journeys, stronger category connections, and more effective pathway structures.

Strategic Approach: Content Impact Standard

In this process, content updates were carried out using the Content Impact Standard approach developed by Markethinkers and Contentia.

Content Impact Standard evaluates content not only as SEO-optimized copy, but as a digital asset that is findable, answerable, trustworthy, and aligned with the brand experience.

For this reason, the work was structured around four core dimensions:

Content Impact Standard AreaMeaning for Mustela Türkiye
DiscoverabilityMaking content easier to find across search engines, AI answers, and the user journey
AnswerabilityEnsuring content can provide clear, scannable, and direct answers to real user questions
Trust & ProofStrengthening claims through clearer structure, external sources, tables, lists, and explanatory formats
Brand Fit & ExperienceAligning content with Mustela’s expert, trustworthy, and user-friendly brand experience

In line with this approach, content updates began in April 2026. The work did not consist only of textual revisions. Content structure, user intent, AI answer suitability, trust signals, and the relationship with the purchase journey were evaluated together.

Pathway-Led Content Transformation

One of the most critical parts of Mustela’s content optimization was ensuring that informational content did not remain disconnected from the purchase journey.

In the age of AI search, many users ask a question before directly visiting a product or category page:

  • Why does baby skin become dry?
  • What should be considered in newborn skincare?
  • How can cradle cap in babies be managed?
  • Which skincare products are suitable for sensitive skin?
  • What types of skincare products can be used during pregnancy?

Although these questions appear informational in the traditional sense, when structured correctly, they can connect the user to the relevant product, category, or care routine pathway.

For this reason, Mustela’s content was not treated merely as “blog posts that answer questions.” Instead, each piece of content was approached as part of a pathway that understands the user’s need and guides them toward the right next step.

Through the pathway-led approach, the following areas were strengthened:

  • Connections from informational content to relevant category pages
  • Guidance from user questions to product groups
  • Links from care routine content to relevant solution pages
  • A more logical internal linking structure between content clusters
  • A structure that helps AI systems better understand the relationship between content, categories, products, and user needs

As a result, content evolved from being pages that simply generated traffic into strategic touchpoints that supported Mustela’s digital purchase journey.

Content Updates Implemented

Content optimization for Mustela was not treated solely as a project to improve SEO performance. The content was transformed into a more reliable, structured, and category-focused resource that AI search platforms could use in their answer-generation processes.

Within the scope of Content Impact Standard, the updated content was improved in the following areas:

  • Heading hierarchies were revised to respond more clearly to user questions.
  • Question-answer and FAQ structures were strengthened.
  • Scannability was improved through tables, lists, and clearer section structures.
  • Stronger connections were created between informational content and relevant product or category pathways.
  • The structure and use of sources supporting trust signals were improved.
  • Alignment with Mustela’s expert, reliable, and user-friendly brand experience was strengthened.
  • More answerable and citable content structures were created for AI search experiences.

With these updates, the content was transformed from “informational blog posts” into pathway-led assets that show users the next step and make the content more readable for AI search experiences.

Measurable Improvement in Content Quality and Organic Performance

In April 2026, the content updated through Contentia’s Content Impact Standard approach was evaluated in terms of both content quality and organic performance metrics.

Before the updates, Content Impact scores for the selected pieces were in the 62–68 range. After the updates, scores moved into the 76–80 range. On average, content scores improved by approximately 19.4%.

This improvement showed that the Content Impact Standard created a consistent and measurable impact on content quality.

In addition to improvements in content scores, organic traffic and Google Search Console data were also reviewed. Compared with March, updated content showed increases in click and organic traffic data.

These results showed that the content updates did not create only a theoretical improvement in quality. They also helped build more strategic touchpoints that were better aligned with user intent, more visible in search results, and more capable of supporting the purchase journey.

The key point here was not traffic growth alone. The updated content became more strategic content assets that better supported users in the decision-making process and guided them toward relevant product or category pathways.

Strong Growth in AI Search Visibility

Between March and June 2026, Mustela Türkiye’s AI search visibility showed strong growth across several metrics, including overall visibility score, mentions, citations, cited pages, LLM distribution, and category-level visibility.

Mustela Türkiye’s AI Visibility score increased from 14 in March 2026 to 74 by June 2026.

According to June 2026 data, Mustela Türkiye achieved the following within the AI search ecosystem:

  • 1K mentions
  • 1.8K citations
  • 383 cited pages

The significant increase in cited pages was especially important. It showed that the brand was not only being mentioned more often in AI answers, but was also being represented as a source through a wider set of pages.

This is a critical signal for AI search visibility. The value is not only that the brand name appears more frequently. The fact that different content pages begin to be used as sources suggests that the content structure has become more understandable, more answerable, and more trustworthy.

When the LLM distribution was analyzed, visibility was not limited to a single AI platform. This indicated that the work created visibility potential not only on one search surface, but across a broader AI-powered discovery ecosystem.

This growth cannot be attributed to a single activity. However, it is fair to say that content updates carried out in line with the Content Impact Standard contributed to making the content more answerable, more trustworthy, better structured, and more suitable for AI search experiences.

A Stronger AI Visibility Position Within the Category

With the growth achieved by June 2026, Mustela Türkiye reached a stronger and more competitive visibility level among leading brands in category-level AI Visibility comparisons.

This development showed that Mustela was not only becoming more visible in AI-powered search experiences. It was also becoming a brand that was mentioned more often, cited more frequently, and represented through a wider set of pages within its category context.

The important point in this section is not to claim that Mustela outperformed every competitor. Rather, it is to demonstrate, through verifiable data, that Mustela achieved a stronger category position in AI search visibility.

The real value of AI Search visibility is not only an increase in visibility score. The real value lies in whether the brand is represented in the right category contexts, for the right user questions, and through the right content sources.

For Mustela, this was one of the areas that became stronger during the project. The brand became more visible not merely as a name that appears in results, but as a category authority that answers user questions and is cited through different pages.

Strategic Impact: More Than Traffic

One of the most important outcomes of this project was that it showed content performance cannot be evaluated through traffic growth alone.

In the age of AI search, the following questions are becoming increasingly critical for brands:

  • Is the brand mentioned in the right context within AI answers?
  • Which pages are being cited as sources?
  • Can the content provide clear and trustworthy answers to user questions?
  • Is informational content connected to product and category pathways?
  • Does the brand have a competitive level of AI visibility within its category?
  • Does the content system only generate traffic, or does it also support the decision-making process?

The Content Impact Standard approach developed by Contentia was used for Mustela Türkiye to create a measurable answer to these questions.

As a result, Mustela’s content was strengthened not only from an SEO perspective, but also in terms of AI search visibility, answerability, trust signals, pathway contribution, and category authority.

Results

The work carried out for Mustela Türkiye showed that content optimization can create measurable impact not only in terms of traditional SEO performance, but also in AI search visibility and brand authority.

Commercial performance, net revenue, conversion rate, category-level sales data, and internal analytics metrics have not been shared in this success story due to confidentiality. This project has been evaluated based on search visibility, content quality, AI readiness, mention and citation visibility, and pathway contribution.

What This Success Story Shows

The Mustela Türkiye example offers an important insight for brands that want to build sustainable visibility in the age of AI search:

When content is designed not only around keywords, but also around user intent, expertise signals, trustworthy source structures, pathway contribution, and the way AI systems generate answers, brands can build a stronger visibility foundation across both traditional search engines and next-generation AI platforms.

This project also showed that AI Search visibility is not a separate tactic disconnected from classic SEO. It is a new layer of visibility built on strong content architecture, clear answer structures, trust signals, brand experience, and the right internal linking and pathway strategy.

The Content Impact Standard developed by Markethinkers and Contentia turned this transformation into a measurable model in the Mustela Türkiye case.

The Markethinkers Approach

At Markethinkers, we do not evaluate content success in the age of AI search only through rankings or traffic growth.

For us, strong content needs to answer five key questions:

  • Can it be found by users and search systems?
  • Can it provide clear and trustworthy answers to real user questions?
  • Does it support its claims with enough trust, sources, structure, and expertise signals?
  • Does it offer a consistent, reliable experience aligned with the brand?
  • Can it connect the user to the right product, category, content, or conversion pathway?

The Mustela Türkiye project became a strong example of how this approach can be applied in the age of AI search.
